Internal circulation system: why it's key for high-resolution inkjet reliability

To be honest with you, most dealers who start evaluating a NaxJet distributorship begin with the price list and the print speed. The number that actually decides whether a dealership makes money in year two is how often those machines come back to you with a blocked printhead. NaxJet has been building industrial coding and marking equipment since 2011, exports to 100+ countries, and holds 18+ patents and 11 software copyrights. If I were sitting on your side of the table, the internal circulation system in our N-series high-resolution PIJ platform is the first thing I would ask about.

The demand has moved upmarket, and that changes what a dealer sells

Packaging buyers are no longer shopping for a machine that prints a date code. They are being pushed toward high-density QR codes, GS1 Digital Link, pharmaceutical serialization against FDA and FMD requirements, and direct printing that replaces pre-printed labels. That work needs 300–600 DPI native resolution, real variable data, and a machine that stays on the line.

This is the part most people skip over, and it costs them. A dealer forecasts margin on the unit price and forgets the cost of service per installed machine. On a high-resolution UV platform running white ink, varnish, or ceramic ink, a single recurring nozzle problem can turn a profitable account into a two-year apology tour. The hardware spec that protects you from that is ink circulation inside the printhead, not another line on the brochure.

What internal circulation actually does, in plain terms

Pigment-based inks settle. When a machine sits idle overnight or over a weekend, heavy particles drop out of suspension and collect in the nozzle channels. On a conventional high-resolution head, that becomes a morning purge, a lost hour of production, and eventually a replacement head. Our patented internal circulation design routes ink continuously through all nozzle channels, so bubbles and particles are carried out instead of parked in the nozzles.

The practical outcomes you can put in front of a customer are these: the platform can sit idle for up to one month and print on the first command, the head self-heals from light clogging instead of escalating to a service call, and ink consumption runs 30%–50% lower because you are not flushing it away to stay clean. Imported industrial SEIKO heads are rated for 30 billion print cycles, and with proper maintenance an N5 head realistically serves 3–5 years.

Product-level technical detail is not my area, and I would rather say so than improvise: for ink chemistry, nozzle geometry, or a specific substrate test, I would point you to our engineering team to confirm. What I can tell you is what it does to your service economics.

Why this decides your service math

Clarifying who owns what up front beats a nice-looking promise, so here is the honest version of the trade. A high-resolution machine without circulation puts the maintenance risk on the dealer's field team. A machine with circulation moves most of that risk back to the design. In markets where your nearest trained engineer is a four-hour drive away, that difference is the whole business case.

  • Fewer unscheduled visits in the first 12 months, which is exactly when a new dealer has the least bench depth.
  • White ink, varnish, and ceramic ink applications become serviceable outside a major city, which widens the territory you can actually cover.
  • Lower ink spend per printed unit gives you a defensible answer when a buyer compares running costs, not just purchase price.
  • Standby-to-print capability matters to plants running one shift a day, five days a week, where idle time is the norm.

How the partnership is structured

The terms below reflect how we typically structure a NaxJet dealership. They are indicative only; the contract carries the final numbers, and you can come back to me with questions on any line.

ItemTypical structure
Territory protectionExclusive rights for 24 months, renewable against agreed annual volume
Annual targetSet per market, reviewed quarterly rather than annually
Payment terms30% deposit / 70% before shipment on order one; 60-day terms available from order two after credit review
Volume rebate3% at target, 5% at 115% of target, 8% at 130%
Demo unitOne unit at 40% of list, for showroom and customer trials
Warranty1-year parts, plus labor reimbursement at an agreed rate on in-warranty repairs
Parts stockRecommended 3% of first-year order value held locally
Training3 days at the factory for 2 engineers, annual online refresher
Price protection60-day notice on any list price change
Lead routingWebsite inquiries in your territory forwarded within 2 business days

The support behind the machine

A distributorship is a two-way commitment - it only works when both sides are all in. On our side that means same-day response on phone troubleshooting, 7×24 remote technical support, and the SCloud platform, which lets your engineers read machine parameters remotely, push a one-click upgrade, and catch a developing fault before the customer calls you about a stopped line. The N-series also runs 300–2400 DPI, up to 24 heads, 400mm of print width on an 8-head N5 configuration, and up to 330 m/min at lower resolution, so one platform covers a lot of the inquiries you already get.

Before you commit to anything, use the free sample marking test. Send the actual substrate - the coated carton, the shrink film, the HDPE bottle - and we return a written marking report you can put straight in front of your prospect.

A pattern I have seen more than once

The dealers who actually make it work all tend to do the same thing first: they pick one application they can support properly and build from there. I know a dealer in Southeast Asia who took on UV white ink work for cosmetic bottles long before he had a large service team. His previous experience with a non-circulating machine was a Monday morning ritual of nozzle cleaning and excuses. On a circulating platform, that recurring problem stopped being a weekly event, and he could finally quote lead times without padding them. He did not grow because of a discount. He grew because he stopped losing accounts to downtime.

Who this is not for

Upfront market investment is required - demo stock, a trained engineer or two, and a parts kit - and results typically appear in the second or third quarter, not the first month. If you are looking for a box to resell and a fast margin, this will frustrate you, and honestly, we will frustrate each other. What we look for is a partner who wants to build a serviceable installed base in one market.

FAQ

Do I need a cleanroom or special facility to run high-resolution UV ink?

No. Normal industrial housekeeping and stable temperature are enough for most installations. Specific ink storage requirements should be confirmed with our engineering team for your climate.

How much of the first year is typically warranty work?

On circulating platforms most first-year calls are installation and operator questions rather than head failures. That is the reason we push the 3-day factory training before your first install.

Can one demo machine cover both CIJ and high-resolution work?

They are separate platforms. Most new dealers start with one N-series demo unit if their market is packaging-heavy, or an S-series CIJ unit if it is beverage and food.

What happens if a territory underperforms?

Exclusivity is reviewed against the agreed target at 24 months. We would rather resize a territory honestly than let a partner hold ground they cannot serve.

If you want to assess fit before talking numbers, start with a sample. Send your substrate through naxjet.com/contact and ask for the marking report, then come back to me with the applications you actually see in your market. That conversation is worth more than any brochure.
